I Want My Music Television - 8/29/11

There have been a couple of videos that have caught my eye lately so I thought I’d give them some love since the death of Musical Television left a void for a forum on the art form. If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Muppet Show Theme Song - The Muppets & OK Go

I wonder if OK Go was picked to remake The Muppets Theme because of the video because the song is not even close the best Muppets Theme ever. But you have to love the part where the Muppets are revealed to be controlling OK Go.

Up All Night – Blink182

The best thing I can say about the new Blink182 song is that it is a more welcome comeback then the recent Limp Bizkit ateempted comeback. If nobody likes you when you’re twenty-three, I can image what they think of you when you are thirty-three.

Called Out of the Dark – Snow Patrol

I really liked Snow Patrol first album, but it seems like every subsiquant album get a little more bland to the point when their last song was featured in the trailer of a horrible chick flick (see Leap Year, or better yet, do not, it was horrible). And for the sound of their first single, the next album will not break that trend. But at least the video shows off a funny side for the first time.

1+1 – Beyoncé

When I reviewed the latest Beyoncé album (see You a Bad Girl and Your Friends Bad Too) I thought I liked this song, but I did not remember how annoying her pronunciation of “you” was. It is really distracting. But I still like the guitar solo at the end.

I Want My Music Television - 7/28/11

There have been a couple of videos that have caught my eye lately so I thought I’d give them some love since the death of Musical Television left a void for a forum on the art form. If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

All Is Not Lost – OK Go

OK Go is back with their new eye popping video (and mediocre at best song) so advanced that YouTube cannot do it proper justice. If you have Chrome, then follow this link to see the video that they made especially for me.

Cho Cha – Teddybears featuring Cee-Lo and B52’s

If this music video by Teddybears was not creepy enough, it turns out the dude in the video is a legitimate celebrity stacker who has had restraining orders and everything. I do not know enough about him to know if he used teddy bears as part of his stalking or not.

Go Outside - Cults

If that is not enough creepy dudes for you, Cults recently inserted themselves into the most famous cult led by Jim Jones (for you young-ins wondering where the phrase “Drinking the Kool-Aid” came from, it’s this cult).

Movin' Down the Line (Don't You Go Away) - Raphael Saadiq

Since the world needs more Raphael Saadiq in it, here is his latest music video.

I Want My Music Television vol. XCV

There have been a couple of videos that have caught my eye lately so I thought I’d give them some love since the death of Musical Television left a void for a forum on the art form. If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Pow Pow - LCD Soundsystem

MTV is actually putting the Music back into their name. No, they will not be showing more music videos, but for some really they are going to back roll higher produced music video dubbed Supervideo. The first partnership is that with LCD Soundsystem who recruited Scott Pilgrim vs. the World actress Anna Kendrick playing, um, I have no idea what is going on here. Money well spent MTV.

Playing God - Paramore

Speaking of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, is the lead singer of Paramore the real life version of Ramona Flowers?

Bright Lights Bigger City - Cee Lo Green

When I saw Cee- Lo Green released a video for Bright Lights, Bigger City I was hoping for a Michael J. Fox cameo. Alas it was not meant to be.

Last Leaf - OK Go

OK Go has another interesting video backed by a mediocre song out, this time with 100% more bread.

I Want My Music Television vol. XCII

If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Loca - Shakira featuring Dizzee Rascal

It may be time for Shakira to take a vacation because it wasn’t that long ago I was finish being underwhelmed by her last album, and by the sound of the first single off the next one, I am set to be underwhelmed once again. But is nice to see Dizzee Rascal get some work on a mainstream artist’s track.

Mama's Song - Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has sang some overlycheesy songs in her short career, but Mama’s songs make take the prize for her cheesiest yet.

White Knuckles - OK Go

Here is yet another awesome OK Go video (now with 100% more dog) set to another mediocre at best songs.

Obsession - Sky Ferreira

I have no idea who Sky Ferreira is, she seems to be some sort of cross Avril Lavinge and the creepy chick from Gossip Girl who thinks she is Courtney Love. Whoever she is she gets points for the Reservoir Dogs reference, which I guestimate a movie that may actually be older than she is, even getting Mr. Blonde himself Michael Madsen to appear.

I Want My Music Television vol. LXXXV

There have been a couple of videos that have caught my eye lately so I thought I’d give them some love since the death of Musical Television left a void for a forum on the art form. If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Airplanes - B.o.B. featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore

I really hated the first single from B.o.B. and am getting tired of all the emo rap been going on lately, but there is something about the chorus, courtesy of the chick from Paramore, that just gets stuck in my head and bounces around there for hours.

Dear God 2.0 – The Roots featuring Monstars of Folk

The last time The Roots updated another artists song was so good that I deemed it the best song of 2003 but where The Seed 2.0 took Cody ChestnuTT’s low-fi song and pumped it throw a full band stomp, Dear God 2.0 just adds some raps and an extra beat to the Monsters of Folk which just seems lazy and disappointed compared to The Seed 2.0.

End Love - OK Go

Another interesting video from OK Go to go along with an “eh” kind of song.

Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) [English Version] {The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup (TM) Song} (feat. Freshlyground) - Shakira

Big soccer game today for us Yankees (which will probably be over by the time you read this) and I am not sure if this Shakira official 2010 FIFA theme will do much to get many players excited (this time for Africa didn’t really come true as it looks like none of the continent’s teams will advanced). And Shakira’s home nation of Columbia didn’t even qualify (but was the subject of the most recent ESPN 30 for 30 episode).

If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Stylo – Gorillaz

So does the lead singer of Gorillaz, 2-D, have to undergo a name change now that they have had a visual upgrade? And I have to say I was a little disappointed that Bruce Willis got the better of the band instead of the other way around.

Kandi – One EskimO

Another semi-animated video (you can check out the fully animated version here), this time from One EskimO for a song I just can’t get out of my head the last couple weeks.

This Too Shall Pass – OK Go

Ladies and gentlemen: the greatest game of Mouse Trap ever. Now if only OK Go could make music that was as entertaining as their videos.

Gypsy – Shakira

What is it about tennis players that make Latin artist want to put them in their video? First Maria Sharapova starred in an Enrique Iglesias video and here is Raphael Nadal (sans his patented Capri pants) moonlighting in the latest from Shakira.

If You Love Me, Come Find Me

There have been a couple of videos that have caught my eye lately so I though I’d give them some love since the death of Musical Television left a void for a forum on the art form so here they are courtesy of . I advise you to watch them before you read my reviews if you don’t want me to spoil things. If you are interested in buying the video through iTunes, click the title link (where available). If you are interested in buying the song, look for a link in the analysis.

Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober

This is the coolest video based on a children’s story since Tom Petty’s Don’t Come Around Here No More. Granted I think it’s the only one besides the cheesy claymation video by Green Jello Jelly (am I the only one that remembers it?). This sounds pretty mosh like previous songs so it will be interesting how the rest of the new album sounds without Ben Moody.

Better Than Ezra - Juicy

Please don’t think less of because this song was featured in a Desperate Housewives commercial last year. I do kind of wonder if the line dancing older woman is a slight jab at the show, so in a way, they may have redeemed themselved.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Tell Me Baby

Now that there really isn’t an outlet for music videos, more and more of them have gone with cost efficient video, it seems to spawn creativity especially with the surprising some fans by jamming with them. Interestingly enough this video was directed by the Dayton/Farris team that was behind 90’s iconic high concept videos by the Peppers and Smashing Pumpkin among others

OK Go - Here it Goes Again

Speaking of low budgets, this could possibly be the lamest video I have ever seem, yet I couldn’t stop watching the dancing fools of .

Everclear - Hater

Here’s a video for those that subscribe to Us Weekly or watch too much of the E! channel. I’m not the biggest fan of salacious news, but I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the video. Yeah a few of the break-up’s were a while ago and I’m not sure why brought up such forgettable break-up’s by Joey and Phil Collins (is there a good story behind that one that I missed?).

Who's House Are You Haunting Tonight

OK Go - Oh No

I was introduced to OK Go a couple years back when their song Get Over It was featured one of the Madden games. The song was a catchy power pop with a sing along chorus that gave me the impression that they were Midwest’s version of Weezer. But like most songs that are featured in EA Sports games, the song got so overplayed thanks to my hours devoted to the games and would finding myself muting the game because each song sent me into instant spasms.

Getting back to present day, I was intrigued when I heard the band was releasing a new album, sans video game promotion, Oh No. In the first half of the album, they follow the formula of Get Over It with it fast, guitar heavy sound over bratty lyrics. The opening track, Invincible, explodes over the speakers. Then we get Do What You Want another fast one that sounds like a lost song from the Primal Scream’s library.

Whenever the band tries to slow things down, the music really isn’t as good. Songs like Let it Rain and Maybe This Time just don’t stand up to their faster counterparts. Oh Lately it’s So Quiet is the only exception of the slower sect here with the singer trying his hand and falsetto and background singers repeating “Oh no”, throughout the song. But in the end, the band just seems too bratty; the allure of Weezer songs is Rivers Cuomo’s occasional self-loathing. OK Go should learn some of that humility.

Song to Download – Invincible

Oh No gets a Terror Alert Level: Elevated [YELLOW] on my Terror Alert Scale.
